My First Book Covering

Good day folks, Saturday again, YIPPEE.  Well today I am going to make no bones about being chuffed, proud and really pleased with myself.

I have been going to Slimming World since January this year and I am doing okay, quite good really but my book is getting a bit tatty and I wanted to combine my crafting with my slimming so decided to have a go at a book cover.

I needed something that I could add too so decided to go with a front and back cover using ring binders.

I found some grunge type board in my crafty stash, why I have it, when I bought it I have no idea but it came in handy for my first attempt.  I cut it down to the size I wanted to fit A5 poly wallets.

I then painted it with white gesso followed by IndigoBlu English Cottages Acrylic paints, originally one coat of pantry white and then I decided that as slimming world colours are yellow and orange I painted a coat of banana custard.

I inked around the edges with black soot and left that to dry and then stencilled with spiced marmalade and left that overnight to dry as advised by indigoblu.

I then stamped my image in black versafine and embossed with clear embossing powder.  I stamped my sentiment the same.  I have also used creative expressions detail copper embossing powder for the swirls and an orange embossing powder for the butterflies and bird.

My name is some metal alphabet pieces I bought years ago.  The back was decorated the same. At the moment I have left the inside except for the back which I have stamped by personalised stamp.

I then needed to seal it and turned to mod podge gloss lustre, a thin coat.  I put some holes in with my cropadile and finished off with the eyelets.

I have also designed some note paper in Serif and printed those out to put in and it fits my poly wallets perfectly.  I am so pleased with it I keep looking at it.

Yeah I know I am sad and need to get a life to anyone else but as a crafter I am sure you will know how I feel, I have never done anything like this before but now I want to do another one.

Eventually the grungeboard will have to be replaced so, I feel a visit to B&Q coming on with my darling hubby to purchase some mdf which he will kindly cut to size and then I can begin again.

I hope you like it as much as I do. Thanks for stopping by and putting up with my excitement.

Take care, see you soon.

I have entered this project into the following challenge: -

  1. Beautiful Book! I completely understand. I need to make one of these for my stop smoking challenge so I can keep it to remember how hard it was to quit when I get the urge to smoke. Great idea!
